Masculine Maven

We're already into the month of December and I've only just recently purchased a proper winter coat. Perhaps I've been in denial that the cold weather has approached and have been toughing it out with extra layers of wool and cashmere sweaters in the meantime. This year, I took some time to try out a few different styles before I made a decision—I always came back to the 'masculine' style coat. Typically very tailored and simple, with one single button. As much as I like the look of the very trendy blanket (this one I love) and wrap coats, I always feel like I'm wearing pyjamas when I put them on. Those styles seem to work best on women who are bit taller or more voluptuous than myself (you could also just wear heels but I rarely do). So, here are my top three picks (shown above) for the universally flattering 'masculine' coat:

1. Barbara Bui Wool Cloth Masculine Coat
2. Stella McCartney Bryce Wool-Blend Tweed Coat
3. Veronica Beard Chesterfield Dickey Coat

While I'm waiting for these amazing coats to go on sale, I bought this one from Zara to get me through the season. It was actually a great purchase and I'm super happy with the fit and material. It can be hit or miss with wool blends. I love that the Veronica Beard jacket has the leather vest detail, but that's also easy to achieve by buying two separate pieces and layering them. Something like this leather Theory vest or this quilted OAK vest (both on the Outnet) would look great layered underneath, also providing extra warmth.
